The 82-year-old woman was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m. at Water’s Edge Rehab. And Nursing Center in Port Jefferson, Long Island, Suffolk County police said. He was taken to OB. Davis Funeral Home at Miller Place 1:30 p.m.
Police were unable to provide an update on the condition of the unidentified woman.

“This is a horrific situation that has caused unnecessary. Trauma to the affected resident. And his loved ones,” said a spokesperson for the attorney general’s office. The spokeswoman did not say whether the nursing home would be charged or fined.
The incident comes more than a month. After a 66-year-old woman was mistakenly presumed dead at an Iowa hospital.
The state Department of Inspections and Appeals said a nurse at the facility checked on the woman at 6 a.m. Jan. 3. And found no signs of life. The resident was transferred to a funeral home. Where staff members found her “chest moving and gasping for air,” the department said in a report.
