New Delhi:

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday congratulated SS Rajamouli’s RRR team for winning the Golden Globe Award in the Best Original Song category.
Taking to his social media handle, Chief Minister Reddy tweeted, “#Telugu flag is flying high! On behalf of everyone in #AndhraPradesh, I congratulate @mmkeeravaani, @ssrajamouli, @tarak9999, @AlwaysRamCharan and the entire team of @RRRMovie. We are incredibly proud of you. Proud! #GoldenGlobes2023.”

However, the Andhra Chief Minister’s congratulatory message did not go down well with singer Adnan Sami who first told him “we are Indians” and “separatist attitudes” are unhealthy.

Responding to the Chief Minister’s tweet, Mr. Sami wrote, “Telugu flag? You mean Indian flag right? We are Indians first and so please stop separating yourselves from the rest of the country… especially internationally, we are one country!’ The attitude of the separatists is very unhealthy as we saw in 1947!!! Thanks…Jai Hind.”

Mr Sami’s tweet has divided opinion on social media. While some echoed his sentiments, others in the southern state argued that RRR’s win brought great pride to Andhra Pradesh, adding that Bollywood entertainers always looked down on Telugu films but now want to be a part of them as the industry has become so successful. “After decades of decline of South language and films, now everyone wants to share in its success… How convenient!!!” one person tweeted.

“Well said but this is the sad reality of India.. in many places the language takes precedence over the country,” tweeted another.

RRR, SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster movie won Best Original Song for Naatu , one of the two categories in which it was nominated. However, it missed out on the Best Non-English Language Film Award which won Argentina, 1985.
