BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday ordered. A stay on the unveiling of an Adiyogi idol. And the opening of an Isha Yoga center at the foothills of Nandi Hills near Bengaluru.
After issuing notices to the State, Yoga Center and 14 other respondents. The court issued an interim order of stay.
The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) alleged. That a commercial enterprise was being set up in an fragile environment. And that the government had allotted land for the purpose.
The PIL was filed by Kyathappa S and some other villagers of Chikkaballapur.
The Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Ecology. Government of Karnataka, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests. And Isha Yoga Centre, Coimbatore, are among the 16 respondents.
The PIL alleged that the authorities had allowed. NDB Foothills of Chikkaballapura Hobli to set up a private foundation. At the base of the famous Nandi Hills in clear violation. The environment’s eco-system, watershed, core command area of Nandi Hills. Establishing commercial activities in the core area of the Yoga Center’s spiritual guru Sabuj Pahar. Panchgiri Nandi Range.
The PIL said the authorities have allowed. The destruction of centuries-old Nandi Hills foothills eco-system, environment. And natural rainwater streams, reservoirs, water feeder streams.
