New Delhi: Odisha Health Minister . Nav Kishore Das was shot dead by an assistant sub-inspector at. Gandhi Chowk near Brajrajnagar in Jharsuguda district today at around 1 pm on Sunday. He was shot in the chest on his way to attend a function. The minister was injured when the police officer fired two rounds. He was rushed to the hospital. He was later airlifted to Bhubaneswar, witnesses said.
“Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police Gopal Das fired at the minister. The minister was injured and admitted to the hospital,” Brajrajnagar Sub-Divisional . Police Officer Gupteswar Bhoi told reporters. Gopal Das was caught by locals, and taken into custody, police said

Witnesses claimed he was shot as he got out of his car. The motive behind the attack is still unclear.

Videos from the scene showed. Mr. Das bleeding from his chest as people tried to lift . The injured minister, who appeared unconscious, into the front seat of a car.
Nav Das was the chief guest at the inauguration of a Public Graves Office. When he arrived, a crowd gathered to welcome him. a loud noise was heard. “We saw a policeman running away after being shot at close range,” said an eyewitness.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen . Patnaik condemned the attack and ordered the Crime Branch to investigate.
